Before the baseline assessment

The baseline assessment establishes a minimum standard before practical work begins. It is timed, and you have three attempts.

Content. Semantic HTML and its effect on assistive technology; the CSS box and positioning model; JavaScript equality, array methods and closures; React keys, effects and state; HTTP status codes and the handling of secrets in a browser.

Format. Fourteen questions, all of which are asked. Ten are single-choice. Four present a short piece of code and ask for its output or for a missing line; these have no options and are typed in. Casing, spacing and quote style are normalised before comparison. Brackets, dots and operators are not.

Scoring. Unanswered questions are marked incorrect. The time limit is enforced on the server, so closing the tab does not pause it. An attempt that exceeds the limit scores zero and counts towards your three.

Retakes. A failed attempt indicates which of the areas above to revisit. Allow twenty-five uninterrupted minutes for each attempt.
