Backend fundamentals
A minimum of 70% in the baseline assessment. Twenty-five questions drawn from a larger bank, 45 minutes, three attempts.
Task: an API that survives bad input
A running HTTP service with at least three endpoints. It must reject malformed input with 400 and a message naming the field, never with a 500, and it must return the same result when the same create request arrives twice.
Task: a data model and the queries on it
A schema with at least three related tables, a seed of ten thousand rows, and a list endpoint that stays under 200 ms on that data. The README shows the query plan before and after the index you added.
Final project
A deployed service with a repository, a public URL and a README. Authentication, one write path that is safe to retry, and error responses a caller can act on.
Community contribution
Five substantive contributions to other members: code reviews, feedback on their work, or answers to their questions.
Documentation
A README covering the data model, the endpoints with their status codes, how to run it locally, and which decisions you would revisit at ten times the traffic.
Professional practice
Three merged pull requests in the repository you connect, each describing what changed and why.
