Voice rooms and calls are live
DevConnect has voice now.
Every community has three voice rooms: General, Pair Programming, and Help & Debugging.
When you join a room, you choose how you want to participate:
Listen — your mic stays off
Voice — you can speak
Video — you can speak and turn on your camera
Nothing turns on automatically. Your mic and camera always require an explicit click.
You can also call people directly from their profile or a chat. Calls are currently limited to people who follow each other, and incoming calls can be disabled in your profile settings. This doesn't affect voice rooms.
For now, rooms are limited to 6 people.
A few other updates this week:
#Tags are now fully clickable and have their own
/tags page
* The post editor is wider on desktop
* Chat now separates rooms from private messages
* You can pin posts to your profile
* Community owners can pin posts in their communities
* DevConnect can now be installed as an app
I'd especially love feedback on three things:
1. Does audio continue working when you turn your camera on?
2. When you hang up, does the call end correctly for both people?
3. On mobile, can you continue using the rest of DevConnect while staying in a call?
